Mild May

During May the Campaign For Real Ale celebrates the every enjoyable and perfectly made for Cask, the Mild. 

To help revive the drink which saw a drop in popularity, CAMRA branches encourage local pubs to have at least one mild on the bar during the month of May, and that is exactly what we have been doing. We started with our May Cask Festival with two Milds, Thursday's Mild, a collab between Brass Castle & North Riding and Rubeus, a three way collab between Silent Brew, Steelfish & Strawflower. We then brough Downlands & Elusive Brewings collab, Monday's Mild to the 2026 Beckenham Beer Festival before Brains Brewery, Dark Mild which is currently on at the bar. We also have lined up for you Oakham Ales, Thornbridge & Tiny Rebel, which will go on one after the other once the Brains, Dark Mild has finished.

What is a Mild I hear you ask? Mild is a beer style which developed in the late 18th and 19th centuries as drinkers started to demand a slightly sweeter and less aggressively hopped beer than porter. Mild is usually Ruby to Dark Brown in colour, due to the use of well-roasted malts or roasted barley. The beer has a rich malty aroma and flavour, with hints of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and caramel, with a gentle underpinning of hop bitterness, with the ABV around 3% to 4.0% making it a truly Session Cask Ale for you to enjoy. So if you are a fan of Milds or want to explore this style then make sure you pop in for a pint next time you pass by.

We have also added another beer event to May with Sureshot Brews, Milson Day '26 which will see 5 beers, 3 of them being new for this years Milson Day '26 on Friday 29th May. Full list will be out next week.
