Sports Ball!

We at the Three Hounds over the past few years has focused on being part of the local community through our four pillars of community focus and one of those pillars is to be part of grassroots sports. This has developed into the Three Hounds being involved in a local football club, local rugby club, as well as running sports events for customers throughout the year.

We are proud shirt sponsor of Beckenham United FC (Seniors), we will also be attending the end of season awards for the Beckenham United FC Junior teams, with 50p of every pint sold going towards to the youth development programme, helping the future of BUFC from youth to senior teams. We also introduced Grafton Estate Agents and BUFC to each other which resulted in Grafton Estates becoming shirt sponsors of one of the junior teams. By working together as a community we are able to support grassroots football. The sponsorship of Beckenham United FC (Seniors) in their inaugural years enabled the club to focus more on bringing the right players in as they knew they had sponsorship secured before the first game of the season. This has resulted in back to back promotion in the first two seasons, with a third on the horizon.

We work closely with our local rugby club, Beckenham RFC. Each season we have added an additional player sponsorship to our sponsorship program, with the previous season seeing Cam Prince (Under 19 Jamaican International) of the Men's 1st team and Steffie Coxson (inaugural season) of the Women's 2nd team. We will be also sponsoring a two more players in the 26/27 season with the aim to sponsor two players who have graduated from the youth teams into senior teams, one being the men's and the other the women's. Alongside this we help raise funds for Rugby Football Club through events, including a Beer Festival in May and an Oktoberfest in October. Not only this but over the past year, we have worked close with BRFC on smaller events raising money for Cancer Research, Park Langley Rugby Programme and BRFC Vets Programme.

Every Monday, we get together with around 20 regulars to play 8-aside football at the local Goals, before heading back to the Three Hounds for a chat and a pint. This weekly kick about has seen friendships grow among the customers resulting in people who didn't know each other when they first started playing now hanging out outside of the bar from going to football games together, to birthdays and non-drinking social events. Some of these patrons then organised a friendly cricket game with another local team. We have plans to organise a Three Hounds Cricket team for 2027. These groups show that a pub isn't just a place to drink but can result in health-conscious activities with like minded people.

We have more planned for the future, including a Charity Five-Aside Football Tournament, the reintroduction of the Three Hounds Running Club and a few more in the pipeline. As we mentioned last week we are proudly sponsoring Beckenham United FC for the third season in a row. The club itself is holding a Trialist In-House Friendly on July 4th for anyone interested in being part of the Senior Team (16+). If you get onto the team not only are you part of this amazing grassroots football but the kit you will be wearing will have our logo on the front. We think that is a win win situation if we do say so ourselves. There is currently an application form you can fill out here.Overall this week is super chill but we do have two events next week with a Jaipur Cask Takeover on Wednesday before our first Battle of the Breweries on Thursday. More on those next week.

We are teaming up with local artist Darren Hayman for our first Pints & Paints Session. After painting a Lego Space Man on one of our exhibition beer mats Darren was inspired to find beer mats from the 70's & 80's and draw birds on them. Darren explains in his book birds painted on beer mats, "The choice of beer mat and bird may seem arbitrary and often is, though sometimes a connection can be made between the two. Colour theory and composition can often be a decider; for whatever reason it seems right that there should be a long-tailed tit on a Courage beer mat". Our Pints & Paints Sessions is aimed to be relaxing, fun and casual, this is for people picking up a paint brush for the first time to artists wanting to learn a different discipline. Tickets are just £22 including fees and this gets you a two hour session, a complementary drink on arrival and you get to take your art work home with you. We love Cask Ale and we want to make sure we can keep selling more and more Cask Beer. However, as the summer months come in the sale of Cask Beer always drops a little and because of this we are reducing our Cask offerings from four to three. The reason for this is to ensure we continue serving the best quality Cask Beer. Quantity is good when the quality isn't effected, but when sales drop, so does the quality and this is due to us being unable to shift the beer quick enough. Hopefully by reducing the beers to three we can continue giving you the best quality cast beer in Beckenham. So if you love the good stuff then head in for a pint or tell your friends and get the crew together to sip on the suds of this liquid goodness.
