Community Pub Hero Awards

We apologies for the newsletter being a little later this week but we have some awesome news to tell you and but had to wait until Tuesday just gone.

So lets start with the fact we headed to Parliament on Tuesday for the Pub Aid 2026 Community Pub Hero Awards thanks to MP Liam Conlon nominating our pub for the Community Sports Hero Award. Liam pointed out our work with Beckenham RFC from player sponsorship to helping run their beer festival that raised thousands of pounds to help the infrastructure improvements needed to see the club continue for another 150 years. Not only do we work close with Beckenham RFC but we also are proud sponsors of Beckenham United FC, a newly formed local football team with two back to back promotions in the Bromley & South London League.

There was hundreds of entries from across the UK for the four categories and along with the other sports focused events we do, we were considered good enough to be a finalist and worthy of winning the 2026 Community Pub Hero Awards.

We was in the final, in a world famous building that stood the tests of time, with history at every corner, up against so many fantastic pubs from across the country, all who deserved to be there on the night and deserved to win. We gathered to hear the nominated pubs and the winners and first up was Community Pub Hero 2026 in England. As Ed Bedington, editor at the Morning Advertiser starts to read off the fantastic work the winning pub is doing in their local community, "Sponsors a local football team"...our heart starts racing. Have we won? Did we really beat all these other amazing pubs?..."who have their own darts and snooker teams"...we didn't have those, we didn't win, but we came second in the country to the amazing and well deserved of winning the Royal Dyche in Burnley. The Royal Dyche not only do a cracking job with grassroots sports but they do so much for their local community that they also won the Overall Community Hero Awards 2026 for their outstanding work. Coming second to that is pretty bloody awesome if we say so ourselves.

A year ago we would never of though that we would be nominated by our local MP Liam Conlon, to then be considered a finalist in such a fantastic category, to coming second in the country to a pub that won the Overall Community Hero Awards. Tuesday really showed that the work we do, the work that all the pubs nominated, all the finalist make an impact on their local community. The pub isn't just a watering hole, it's so much more. It brings people together when times are tough, in times of celebration or when we are just feeling a little lost from time to time.

Life can be pretty hard out there and we are proud to know that we have, do and will continue to make a positive impact in our local community. Not just for our work with grassroots sports but our charity raising through our Invisible Half for Living Well Bromley, Bromley Homeless and Foal Farm Animal Rescue, plus our many social events like our Chess Club, Magic: The Gathering Club, Art Clubs and many more. Matt has an ever growing list of community focused events and initiatives to help give back to the community that he calls home, the neighbourhood where his made memories with the very people that enjoy a visit to the Three Hounds. If it wasn't for the support you give us we wouldn't be where we are today and we are forever grateful.

This weeks newsletter is already pretty wordy for Matt, but while we are on the subject of the Community Sports Hero Awards and mentioning Matt has a list of events and initiatives to give back to the community, of course he has two to mention to you.

First up, we are teaming up with Beckenham RFC for a little Oktobefest at Beckenham Rugby Club on October 3rd. All money raised will go to the fund raising chest for improvements to the club. The day itself sees two games with the Mens 1st XV & 3rd XV both playing. The Beers will be from local breweries Anspach & Hobday, Drop Project and Three Hounds and the event is free. So if you fancy a few pints of Festbier while getting behind your local rugby team then pop down on the 3rd of October from 3pm.

The second event is new this year but is one that Matt has been planning for some time. The inaugural Three Hounds Charity Football Tournament. This is hopefully going to be a yearly 5-Aside Tournament bringing together local pubs, breweries and businesses to help raise awareness for local charity Living Well Bromley. The aim is to raise over £1000 through an exciting raffle, donations and of course the teams registrations that will raise £320 towards that £1000 goal. The date is set for October 24th and donation & raffle links will be in next weeks newsletter.
